The Baseball Song

I admit it - I get very tired of listening to Bob the Builder and Dora the Explorer. So, I've started to introduce the kids to music I enjoy listening to. A while ago I made a CD that had "You gotta fight for your right to Party" by the Beastie Boys. Last weekend Abby started asking for the "baseball song". There is a baseball song on her Dora CD, so I assumed that was what she wanted and put it on. "No, no, no Mommy" she told me - "the baseball song". I said "Abby, this is the baseball song", but being a persistent 2-yr-old, she kept telling me this was the wrong song. So finally I asked her if there was another baseball song and she said "yes, the kick it song". Ah ha - I finally caught onto her logic (and she was thrilled). I guess in her world, you kick a ball and therefore the "kick it" song otherwise known as "fight for your right" is now known as "the baseball song" in our house (even though you don't actually kick a baseball, but who am I to argue with the princess?). Anyhow, the point of this very long and rambling post is that it's absolutely hilarious to watch Ethan and Abby sing the Beastie Boys. I'm working on getting a video of them to download so you can see just how funny it is for yourselves!

Ahhh...kids. I enjoyed both of the last two posts...except I would ask that you NOT add me to any of your dreams - I need more kids like....well you understand!

As for the lyrical interpretations of children, Kasey and Bubba love to sing on their way to school and day-care - lately they've been enjoying Blades-Shaw's "Influence" [this is a cover album by Jack Blades of Night Ranger/Damn Yankees and Tommy Shaw of Styx/Damn Yankees - it's actually VERY good - plus they do a great cover of one of my favorite 60's songs, "California Dreamin" by the Mama's and Papa's]...back to the point...so they've been listening to this album in the car for a few weeks now and are getting very familiar with many of these classic songs - Kasey's favorite is "Summer Breeze" [originally by Seals & Crofts] while Bubba loves to belt out "Lucky Man" [originally by Emerson, Lake and Palmer]. Both kids love the cover of Steely Dan's "Dirty Work" or as Kasey interprets (quite convinced she's right, like Abby is about the "Baseball Song") "Daddy Work" - Bubba is quick to point out in multi-syllabic speach to her that it is "Dir-ty Work"!! Gotta love em.

On a little side note, I can't stop laughing when Mannie sings "Lucky Man" since he sings it with a British accent...why is this funny? He's never heard the original which has that sound, and the Shaw-Blades version DOES NOT! How weird.
